The second round of the NBA playoffs has arrived. On Sunday, the second round will begin with two monster match ups, one that analysts and fans have been waiting for since the Miami Heat pulled off their impeccable summer.
Dwyane Wade always knew he would be back in a Heat uniform this season. Despite being a free agent, Wade never asserted that he wanted to be anywhere but Miami. What he did not know was that he would be joined in Miami by the biggest NBA star on the planet, LeBron James, and a capable sidekick in Chris Bosh.
Tomorrow, James, Wade, and Bosh will take the court for the first game of their second round series, and the opponent on the other side of the floor will be a well-known foe. The Boston Celtics have won two of the past three Eastern Conference titles, and they have beaten James and his then-team, the Cleveland Cavaliers several times on their way to the title.
Analysts started touting this as a possible Eastern Conference finals match up before the season even began, but Miami and Boston allowed Chicago to slip by them and steal home court advantage. Finishing second and third meant the Heat and Celtics would meet one round sooner than anyone predicted.
Oklahoma City will be the other host on Sunday. The Thunder will face Memphis, a team that became only the fourth eighth seed in NBA history to knock off the top seed in the conference. The Grizzlies are playing with a lot of confidence, but Oklahoma City has been here before, losing to the Lakers last year in the second round.
The betting odds suggest that Oklahoma City and Miami will hold serve in game one tomorrow. The Heat are a five point favorite over Boston, while the Thunder are 6.5 point favorites against Memphis. The totals for the game are 182 and 196, respectively.
The Lakers begin their series Monday at home against Dallas, and Chicago will open up their series with Atlanta Monday as well.
